Every yarn begins with a decision.
Sometimes that's choosing the right fibre. Sometimes it's matching the handle, appearance or performance of an existing yarn. Sometimes it's starting with nothing more than an intended end use.
We can work from either direction: developing a yarn from the fibre forwards, or beginning with the finished yarn and working backwards to determine the most appropriate construction.

We work with a trusted network of brokers, processors and specialist manufacturers across the UK and beyond, allowing us to source fibre and coordinate services that sit outside our own mill.
Whether that's sourcing the right wool, arranging scouring, coordinating dyeing or managing specialist processes, we provide a single point of contact throughout the project.
Manufacturing is at the heart of what we do.
We manufacture bespoke worsted spun yarns from 50 kg upwards for customers ranging from independent yarn brands to established textile businesses.
Beyond spinning, we can coordinate every stage required to deliver the finished product. Plying, dyeing, winding, steaming, labelling and packing can all be tailored to the needs of your project, whether you're taking delivery on cones, balls, skeins or another format.
Every project is quoted individually, allowing us to build the manufacturing route around the yarn you're trying to create.

Depending on your project, these may include fibre preparation, scouring, topmaking, spinning, twisting, winding, dyeing, finishing and packing. Some take place within our own mill, while others are carried out by trusted specialist partners with whom we've worked for many years. Wherever each stage takes place, we manage the process as one coordinated project.

What is your minimum order quantity?
Our minimum production quantity is generally 50 kg of clean wool.
Do I need a finished specification?
No. We can work from an established specification, or help develop one with you.
Can you source fibre?
Yes. We work with trusted brokers and suppliers to source wool for commercial projects.
Can you manufacture organic and non-organic yarns?
Yes. Garthenor operates the UK's only GOTS-certified organic spinning mill, and we also manufacture non-organic yarns for customers who don't require certification.
Can I supply my own fibre?
Yes. We'll advise on whether any preparation is needed before manufacturing begins.
Can you produce samples?
Where appropriate, yes. Sampling can be arranged before committing to a production run.
Why don't you publish a price list?
Because no two projects are the same. Rather than asking projects to fit a standard package, we prepare a quotation based on the manufacturing route your yarn requires.
