A Mill With A Purpose
Melin Cardi wasn't created to preserve historic machinery.
It exists to manufacture exceptional yarn.
Over the years we've rebuilt and recommissioned machinery that would otherwise have been lost as mills closed across Europe. Today those machines are back in production, making yarn every day.
Our focus isn't nostalgia. It's building the right manufacturing capability to produce the yarn our customers need.
Manufacturing In Wales
Our mill is based in a former jeans factory in Cardigan, West Wales.
The building once represented textile manufacturing leaving Britain. Today it's once again producing yarn for brands, designers and manufacturers.
It's a fitting home for a business built around bringing textile manufacturing back into active production.
The Machinery
Every machine in the mill has been selected for a reason.
Some were sourced because they perform a particular process exceptionally well. Others because they produce a quality of yarn that's difficult to achieve any other way.
Rather than replacing proven machinery with newer alternatives, we've invested in restoring and maintaining equipment that continues to earn its place through the quality of what it produces.
It's an ongoing process. The mill continues to evolve as new machinery is added, rebuilt and commissioned.
Built Around Wool
We specialise in worsted spinning because it's what we know best.
Rather than trying to manufacture every type of yarn for every market, we've chosen to focus on producing high quality worsted spun wool yarns and developing the knowledge, equipment and relationships needed to do that well.
That focus benefits every project that comes through the mill.
Organic Manufacturing
Garthenor operates the UK's only GOTS-certified organic spinning mill.
That experience sits at the heart of Melin Cardi.
Alongside certified organic production, we also manufacture non-organic yarns for customers who don't require certification. The same machinery, experience and attention to detail go into every project.
Where certification is required, we can guide clients through the relevant manufacturing and documentation requirements.

Behind every project is a small team with practical manufacturing experience.
From developing new yarns and solving technical challenges to rebuilding machinery and overseeing production, the people you'll speak to are directly involved in the work taking place on the mill floor.
